Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Good evening all. Please forgive if this meeting may be a bit rushed but I am quite under the weather this evening and concentration isn't a skill I possess at the moment. :P :) However, let's get started."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says, "Once again, we have had questions brought up recently regarding canon and hair dye as well as piercings. This is our viewpoint on the subjects. In regards to dying hair: Hair dye can be canon if the person uses native ingredients. For example, if someone uses citron to lighten the hair. Pern does not have the technology to dye hair crazy colors such as pink, blue, etc. In addition, most of these dyes are not permanent. We can see Harpers doing this for performance reasons. Bottom line would be that canon would allow natural tinting but not permanent color changes."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says, "As far as piercings go, this is a bit more difficult to answer. Piercings can be considered canon since Pern does have the technology and medical knowledge to keep the areas clean and infection free. However, Pernese society is not open nor lenient enough to accept this type of excessive ornamentation. It is considered more a medieval society social mindset. Who can get piercings and how many is dependent on monetary factors primarily and social standing secondarily. The person would have to have a healthy amount of marks to afford the jewelry and metalwork for the piercings in addition to having access to Healers. Metal is expensive on Pern and that should be taken into consideration when deciding if your character can ICly afford it. Finally, while ear piercings are mentioned in one book, there is no mention of any other kind."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "We were rather firm about canon and the game as well as the need for leaders and players to be aware of what it is, what opportunities for change are allowed, etc. However, between the last wizmeet and this one, we have been approached with a great deal of questions regarding the process of proposals and changes. To clarify, there are certain things that will not be considered for change, period. Some examples of this type of unchangeable policies are: males as Weyrwomen (goldriders), non-riders as Weyrleaders or Sr. WW, any colors other than green, blue, brown, bronze or gold dragons, shortened weyrlinghood IC timelines, etc. These are just some examples of items we will not accept nor should the Weyr Council consider. Some policies that can be requested for change: clutch sizes, etc."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Moving on, we are reviewing hold applications for those that applied and hope to have the interviews and decisions done this month. There are several crafts that have been opened up for members to apply for the CM roles. Once those discussions are exhausted and if we have no resolution, we will have the insta-CM applications available."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Finally, you all, hopefully, have seen the posting and news being passed along by Starsmith Sagan regarding the fire in the sky. So feel free to RP the oddness there. As was stated, old records mention passing of objects that the oldtimers called comets. We are hoping to have things ready to get the first threadfall to fall in the next couple of weeks. We will make announcements of dates/times soon."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane will open the floor to questions now.
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Ronari has the first question. Page me to be put into the queue, please."
Questioner> Ronari says, "Insta-CM apps. are coming soon, but will we be able to apply for an Insta Journeyman or lesser CM? (by lesser I mean like Jerint is a Master)"
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Insta positions will be determined by the Craftmaster and seconds. Crafts have allowed insta characters within reason in the past. However, right now, we are trying to add active leadership to the crafts that do not have them."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Once the leaders of the inactive crafts have been finalized, then you or anyone can approach them with a petition for an insta."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Kasiese has the next question."
Questioner> Kasiese says, "Which crafts have been opened for new CMs?"
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "As it stands, right now, the crafts are only open to active members of its own craft. The crafts have a posting on their boards to come to us. We have had discussions with other crafts re status and moving forward. Until that is finalized, none are open to the public at large if you don't have an existing crafter in the craft."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane rereads that to see if it made sense. Yes.
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Does that answer your question?"
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Caitlyn has the next question."
Questioner> Caitlyn says, "Are riders allowed to advance their previous Crafter positions, as this is an Interval? If so, how far can they go, and what Crafts are likely to allow such advancements."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "The standard practice is that once you become a rider, you have given up your former rank and position within an area. Some crafts, like the Bakers, for instance, allow student "ranks" so to speak which allows to learn the skills but does not allow you to make commissions or other items with a craft mark."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "As Thread is returning, and it will be less predictable than a normal Pass, the craft work for riders may be a bit more difficult."
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Does that answer your question?"
Conf-All> Caitlyn was thinking, i guess, of a specific instance - where the person was taking their Journey exams, then got Searched.
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "You are not considered part of the Craft once searched and impressed. You are part of the Weyr. You won't lose the knowledge, but you technically should not be doing comissions as a Crafter just as a rider who was heir to a hold or cothold wouldn't be considered heir either."
Conf-All> Caitlyn says "So Cait could not earn extra marks from selling her (unstamped) jewelry?"
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "No, you can but you would not be able to do it as a ranked Crafter with a craft mark."
Conf-All> Caitlyn ahhs. OK. I get it.
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Any other questions?"
Conf-All> At the table, Dyane says "Thank you for your time and understanding. Please keep an eye on the +bb's regarding the first freak Fall and other issues. As always, if there is a need for anything, please feel free to page or +mail us. Thanks. Meeting adjourned."
