Riders

The wizards have created certain policies specific to riders, in conjunction with the Weyr Council. These are the policies directly laid out by the wizards, although they may be elaborated upon by the Weyr Council, and riders should be in touch with their Weyrleaders and the Weyr Council with regards to other issues or clarification of how these items have been put into practice.>

Hatchings
Hatchings are the means by which new riders are inducted into the Weyr. Because of the focus on the dragonriders in the books, and because Impression is canonically unchangeable, certain policies have evolved.

  1. Hatching Schedule. Competition for good dragonriders is fierce among the Weyrs, and in order to keep it under control, the wizards have decided that no two Weyrs may be Searching at the same time (Search is the OOC and IC process of finding new riders). The cycle is currently 5-6 weeks between Hatchings, with each Weyr taking a turn in a specific order. More details are available from Weyrleaders.
  2. Clutch Size. It is the belief of the wizards that Impression of a dragon should be a special event, not only in character, but also in recognition of a certain commitment on the part of the player to PernMUSH as a whole. Therefore, the wizards have limited the number of eggs in a clutch to a maximum of 8, depending on the number of 'insta riders' (keep reading) created in the hatching cycle.
Insta-Riders
This is the term used for rider characters that are created without an Impression. Originally, they were intended to be older riders created for roleplaying purposes (and still generally are). Weyrs are allowed a maximum of 2 insta-riders in a Hatching cycle, and these come off the Hatching quota (so if you have one insta- rider, you have a maximum clutch of 7). Players of these riders should have to apply to the Weyrleaders with a solid character background, and there should be some provision for training these characters in DTU etiquette, etc., that would normally be covered under weyrling training.

Transfers from other MUSHes
In general, riders are not permitted as transfers from other mushes. The exception to this rule is a transfer from the Southern Continent MUSH, since they are our 'sister' MUSH. _Any_ transfer from another MUSH must be approved by the Weyr and wizard Councils.

DTUs
The DTU system is maintained by the wizards. Anyone who is excessively rude or creates lots of spam over the DTUs may have his or her DTU removed, after a warning. Any rider who is consistently non-canonical in his or her behaviour may also have his or her DTU removed by the wizards, at the request of the Weyrleaders. DTU Managers (WLs and possibly WLMs) and Administrators (Wizard riders) have certain administrative commands available to them to enable between training, transfers, etc.

A Weyrleader requiring DTUs for a weyrling class must give the code wizards a minimum of 48 (more is better) hours notice for DTU creation, and the weyrlings _must) have their etiquette lecture first..
