Quotas

PernMUSH has a large player base and limited computer resources. In order to allocate resources fairly, there is a quota system designed to spread the space on the database over the player population fairly evenly, with some regard to the involvement that the player has in the roleplaying community. These quotas are not intended to prohibit building and creating, but to encourage you to think carefully about what is important for you to have on the database.

All players start with a quota of 2. Upon acceptance into an IC organization (and joining their +knot system), a player's quota is automatically increased to 11. Quotas are also limited by the types of objects as well as the number; type '@quota' to see how many exits, rooms, and things you can create.

Due to database size constraints, the total size of a player and his or her objects is limited to 2k/quota object (multiply your overall quota by 2 k), i.e., if you have a quota of 11, you may take up a maximum of 22k (22528 bytes). This total number can be distributed among your items however you wish.

You can use the +size (+help size) command to check the size of each of your objects; to get a total size, just add up the numbers. Please monitor yourself, especially if you feel you may be approaching this limit. The wizard in charge of quota and size periodically notifies people who are over this limit. Excessive violation, non-cooperation, or non-response to these notifications can result in objects being removed from the database by the wizards to bring a player back under the size quota.

Each area granted a building contract by the building wizard will receive a total quota, a typed quota, and a size quota. A general guideline for size is that for a major area, the total quota of all builder characters (_Bldr and _Items characters, if applicable) should never go over 200k.

The quota wizard is in charge of working with individuals and area leaders to make sure that quotas stay under these numbers. That wizard's word is final in any disputes about quota size. If you suspect that you will be over the limit for a short period of time due to craft projects, etc, please discuss the situation with the quota wizard as much in advance as you can.

Players should also try to be aware of the amount of +mail that they keep online. At this time, +mailbox size does not count against a player's quota, but if mail becomes a serious issue in space considerations, this may change. Please clear your already- read mail as soon as possible.
