Players
Players are the people who play Pern, and therefore PernMUSH
can be said to 'be' its players. The MUSH was formed by players
and without them, there wouldn't be anything here worth doing. At
the same time, players should stay aware that PernMUSH is not a
public service, or a 'right.' It is open to anyone who is willing
to follow the theme and to treat others with respect.
All characters must conform to the guidelines outlined. It is the individual player's responsibility to inform him/herself about Pern's theme, via news or +info, or by reading the books. A wizard may ask a character to change his or her name or description if either is considered non-canonical. If a character follows these guidelines, s/he can expect the following:
- Complaints/suggestions brought forward via email or in
+suggest will be read, provided they do not contain rude or profane
language.
- Help is available online via
help, +help, news, +info, and
through staff when there is staff on duty.
- Players can have meetings to organize other players to
petition the wizards with concerns as a group - provided that the
petitions are sent to the wizards via email. Online 'page spam'
campaigns are not acceptable.
- The monthly wiz meeting is open to all players, to watch
via
+watch, and to ask questions by getting into the question
queue.
Players have the opportunity to join an in character area, at
the discretion of the area leader, by contacting an area leader.
Upon joining an IC area, each character receives an increased quota
as outlined in quota. Once in an IC area, the character is
under the authority of the area leader, especially in terms of rank
and participation in organization. A player always has the option
of leaving an IC area, and may also bring concerns with IC
leadership to either the appropriate leader council or to the
wizards. Players always have the option of not connecting to the
MUSH.
Players are subject to certain consequences of inactivity (not
logging into the game). Because of limitations of disk space,
inactive characters may be removed from the database under the
- Characters who have not joined an IC organization (knot
system) and who have not logged on within one month will be removed
from the database.
- Characters who have joined an IC organization and who have not
logged on within 3 months, and who have not set a &vacation
attribute on themselves will be removed from the database.
- Characters who anticipate an absence longer than 3 months and
who wish to retain their characters (over a summer break, for
example) must set a &vacation attribute on themselves, _with an
intended date of return_. Characters who do not return 1 month
after their intended date of return will be removed from the
database.
Currently, this removal takes place on an almost daily, and
definitely weekly, basis.
