Leaders

In character leaders on PernMUSH are the leaders of the Holds, Halls, and Weyrs (as opposed to the out of character leadership of the wizards). In character leadership is really a misnomer, however, as leaders of Holds, Halls, and Weyrs take on a great deal of out of character management for their respective areas. This includes maintenance of the built and coded rooms and objects of their area and links to private rooms, area knot and bulletin board administration, recruiting of members, and coordination of roleplaying opportunities. Although leaders may delegate authority, it is ultimately the Weyrleaders, Craftmasters, and L.Holders who are accountable to the wizards for their areas uniting with the rest of the MUSH in theme and roleplay.

Leaders are expected to meet the following minimum guidelines. Exceptions may be made in unusual circumstances provided the wizards and the appropriate leadership council know what the circumstances are.

Absence
Leaders anticipating an absence longer than 1 month must designate someone as pro-tem leader with a bulletin board post to their area, and mail to the wizard in charge of news. This person must have the authority to perform regular leadership activities like adding new members to the knots, linking private rooms to the area, etc. Leaders who do not appoint a pro-tem leader and who do not log onto the game for 1 month may be replaced by the wizards and/or the council responsible for that area.

Activity
Area leaders are expected to foster activity within their areas. This may take many forms, including holding events, being available for roleplay, and recognizing and rewarding area residents who help make the area active. Leaders must provide a way for basic area functions like knots for new members, responding to email/+mail/pages, links for private rooms, promotions, etc. This all may be delegated to junior leadership, but it is still the area leader's responsibility to see that these functions are done.

Canon
An IC area must generally be built in theme. If a leader has been repeatedly warned by the wizards that a part of his or her area is not in theme and does not change that area, he or she may be removed from leadership, and the appropriate council notified.

Violations
If a leader violates any of the above guidelines, they will first receive a warning, then if the problem is not corrected they may be removed by the wizards and/or the leader council responsible for their area. This procedure will generally include consultation with the junior leaders and residents of that area and will result in the selection of a new leader, or, if the area has insufficient active residents, the area may be closed.

Players concerned about their leaders should approach the wizards or the appropriate leader council, or send email outlining concerns about leadership, supported by as many people as possible in that area, to the wizard email list. Leader councils are:

Weyrs -> Weyr Council
Holds -> Conclave
Crafts -> Craft Council
